NUTRITION

Nutrition is one of the most important aspects of physical and mental health.  We educate our clients on how and what to eat.  Here is some of our more pertinent information. (pictured: blackened grilled jumbo shrimp with asparagus and curried barbecue sauce)

What is G.I.?  Gylcemic Index (G.I) is the rate food and its nutrients are absorbed into your bloodstream.  Foods with a high GI (>55) are excellent for in game/post game nutrition as they bring your blood sugar level back to normal relatively quickly.  Foods with a low GI (<55) are excellent as a pre-training or pre-game meal to provide energy for prolonged activity.

What are “true cramps”?

“True Cramps” involve part or all of a single muscle or group of muscles that generally acts together.  Cramps are caused by contraction or over-shortening of muscles.  A muscle cramp is defined as an involuntarily and forcibly contracted muscle that does not relax. This causes a visible hardening of the involved muscle.
