Up In Smoke Catering has established a “Reach Your Peak” initiative for 2010. Reach Your Peak is an initiative Up in Smoke has designed to help North Carolinians address the increasing problem of obesity in the state. The latest figures have North Carolina ranked #17 in the nation for obesity (26.6%). Currently 64% of Americans are overweight with 34% obese (obesity defined as 20 lbs over optimum weight). Obesity related medical expenses in the nation four years ago was roughly 2.13 billion dollars.
As the leader in the health conscious catering business, Up in Smoke has always offered a health conscious menu. In 2010 we have adjusted our menu to focus on a higher protein and lower carb offerings. Already Up in Smoke does not offer fried foods on the menu but we now only offer grilled, smoked, broiled, baked and sautéed items.
The Reach Your Peak Initiative offers a complete solution to a complete problem. The key to the initiative is adopting a lifestyle change which includes formulating a plan, eating small meals 5-7 times per day to increase metabolism, at least 30 minutes of exercise per day and portion control over all meals. Up in Smoke consultants are available to help you plan your next event with a health conscious flair with calorie, protein and carb information for each dish. Grilled and smoked foods keep well in the refrigerator also and are easy to and delicious when reheated..
It’s time for North Carolina to break the cycle. Infrequent physical activity lowers metabolism. Combined with a high caloric unbalanced diet, this increases health issues and weight gain. The extra weight increases strain on knees, hips and ankles, reduces mobility (because of pain), which reduces physical activity, which further lowers metabolism. The lower metabolism along with an increased high caloric/unbalanced diet (due to the more sedentary lifestyle) makes health issues chronic and adds to weight gain.
Our goal now as it was in 2005 is to “provide healthy alternatives to traditional catered foods while becoming a leader in the local food industry”. Thanks for your support and we look forward to serving you in the near future.
